Empowering our students with cyber knowledge

In today's digital age, children are growing up in a world that is vastly different from that of their parents. Technology has become an integral part of their lives, providing them with access to an abundance of information and endless opportunities. However, along with these advantages come new challenges and risks, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity. Teaching children about cybersecurity is not just a good idea; it's an essential component of modern education.

Our Cyber Team are committed to enhancing cyber awareness and protection within our academies, and ensuring that all our students have the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely. 

For our primary academies, the focus is on e-safety, staying safe online, and this is facilitated through some fun demonstrations. Jack Fowler, Head of Information and Cybersecurity explains, "These are always two-way engagement, and the students typically get animated and seem to enjoy them thoroughly, and I am frequently surprised with just how much they know".

In our secondary academies, the talks are usually more career focused with information about what a career in cyber might look like, including the various routes, paths, and options that are available. Jack says his focus for these is to "point them at helpful resources and where to go for more advice". 

Two of our alumni, who have previously attended these talks are now in CAPSLOCK, and we'll be sharing more about them and their journey into cyber soon. 

Teaching children about cybersecurity is not a luxury but a necessity. By providing them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the online world safely, we empower them to thrive in the digital landscape while protecting themselves and their peers from potential harm. In doing so, we help shape a future where cybersecurity is an integral part of every child's education and daily life, not only safeguarding their online presence but also opening doors to exciting career opportunities in the ever-evolving field of cyber. In this way, we not only protect our children today but also prepare them for the digital challenges and opportunities of the future.
