We believe the most effective way to experience all aspects of school life is to be based in a school environment, learning to teach with expert classroom practitioners. What will my role be?
If you are successful, you will be offered a permanent contract as a Teaching Assistant at one of our primary or secondary academies. These roles are term time only and would normally be full-time (Monday to Friday, school hours), although part-time opportunities may be available depending on requirements and capacity at the individual school.
Working as part of a highly experienced, collaborative and talented team at one of our academies, your role will be to provide support, either as 1:1 tuition, or to small groups of students with varying abilities in a subject (secondary) or year group/key stage (primary). You will be encouraging and supporting individual pupils to reach their full potential, whilst demonstrating a creative and determined attitude that will help motivate students. You will be directly supporting the students with their learning, as well as helping to organise the teaching and learning resources available to students and staff.
What qualifications do I need to apply ?
You will need to have recently achieved or be studying towards an undergraduate degree, ideally with a grade or predicted grade of 2:1 or higher. For secondary roles, we are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have a degree in Maths, Science, English, History, Geography or Languages.
If you are a career changer and/or if you graduated more than three years ago, we would recommend applying for Teaching Assistant jobs at any academy of interest, or email your CV to the talent and resourcing team on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where will I work?
If successful, you will be offered a role at one of our primary or secondary academies, all of which are based in and around London. When completing your application form, you will be able to select from a number of boroughs in which our academies are located. You may select as many of these as you like. However, please keep in mind commute times – including public transport, as not all academies have their own parking available.
How can I make my application stand out?
You will be able to use your supporting statement to really highlight what makes you the right person for the role. Make sure you research the Harris Federation and check the job description and person specification carefully, outlining how your experiences would help you to fulfil the role and the aspects of the Harris ethos that particularly appeal to you. Remember, your experiences might not be in a paid role, but in a university club or society, a volunteering role or even in your personal life.
You should also ensure that you have completed all other sections fully. Don’t forget to include your achieved or predicted grade for your degree.
What will happen when I have submitted my application?
Once your application has been submitted, it will be shared with academies based on the locations you have specified when applying.
We may also contact you if a Teaching Assistant vacancy becomes available at an academy in your preferred boroughs. If you are interested in the available role, we will add your application to be considered along with the other candidates.
