"When I left university I didn't initially consider teaching as a career path; I explored a couple of jobs in sales and recruitment but there was something missing. I realised that I didn't feel like I was having an impact on the world around me and thought the perfect way to give back would be to inspire my passion for physics in others."
Having trained, taught and developed in the Harris Federation over the last three years, I have become Head of Subject and am currently completing my Lead Practitioner qualification at Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, with a focus on behaviour for learning.
Harris has been the first employer to take time to understand my strengths, weaknesses and ambitions; to tailor a path that has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. During my time I have met an incredible group of like-minded people both in and outside of the Federation that otherwise I would never have had the opportunity to meet.
The training and opportunities that Harris provides new teachers have been phenomenal. The training year with Harris ITE provided an excellent opportunity to discover my teaching style, hone my subject knowledge and of course explore various ways of engaging students from different backgrounds. They built my confidence and showed me how to take risks in a classroom to get the best out of my students.
The ongoing support Harris has given me throughout my career has allowed me develop as a teacher, Head of Subject and Lead Practitioner in a relatively short period of time. I have been able to visit a number of the Harris academies and every one that I have visited, whilst being unique in their own way, demonstrate the core values of a Harris school: every student can succeed.
Think Teaching. Think Harris – why should Harris be your first choice for a teacher training role?
The Federation offers unparalleled resources, support and access to a network of outstanding teachers across all subjects.
